Already thinking about the future.....

The other night at the table Christian said, "Mom, when I get married I want my wife to have this meatloaf recipe and the enchilada casserole and your rigatoni recipes."

Talk about scoring some points!!!! I'm thinking that maybe I'll go ahead and start some recipe books for all 3 kids.

June, where did you go?

I can't believe I haven't written anything in such a long time!!! I'll give you a brief June update of the Gerber household (hopefully you won't be too bored!)

June 2-6: I was baby-sitting 2 additional kids. We were busy all week long!

June 8: Both the boys were baptized! Rod Vaughn, the missionary from the Crow Creek Indian Reservation, arrived along with 2 teenage boys and a 6 year old boy for the week.

June 9-13: Joshua's 8th birthday, my 38th birthday, VBS, baseball tournament, baby-sitting, company!

June16-20: Baby-sitting all week and go, go, go during the day.

Friday, June 20: Tim leaves for SD and gets back on Monday, June 30

Sunday, June 22: Both boys head to Camp Allendale and I pick them up on Friday, June 27

Baby-sitting, VBS, company, baseball, camp, mission trip PLUS all the regular day to day activities of our house - WOW! no wonder I was pooped when June got over!

It's funny though because looking at it like this doesn't really show how busy we were (zoo, children's museum, movies, bowling, swimming - baseball! etc.)

I know I said baseball a lot but it took tons of time. In fact, Joshua's team won his league but didn't advance in the tournament. Christian's team won the league, won the tournament and won a "world series" game against another local club.

Just a quick brag on Christian: during the world series game they had Christian batting 4th! He had always been 5th or 6th (come to find out he had the second best average on the team!). Anyway, his first at bat he struck out. His next 2 at bats netted him RBI's (both were pounded to left field). His 4th at bat for the day - HOME RUN!!!! He called Tim (who's on his way to SD for the mission trip) huffing and puffing about his hit! He also caught a fly ball playing second base and this throw from left-center to second base was the game winning play! Christian had the game of his life!!!!!

Anyway, our life has slowed down (woo hoo!) during July and August. I am very thankful for that. We are still busy but we have had time to slow down.

I've bored everyone enough, I'll do more on another day.

Three Parts to Ponder

A MUST READ. FROM START TO END.
Part 1

In just one year . Remember the election in 2006?
Thought you might like to read the following:
A little over one year ago:

1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.

Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen:

1) Consumer confidence plummet;
2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.50 a gallon;
3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase);
4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses);
5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars;
6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.

America voted for change in 2006, and we got it!

Remember it's Congress that makes law not the President. He has to work with what's handed to him.

Quote of the Day........"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it." -- Barack Obama

Part 2:

Taxes...Whether Democrat or a Republican you will find these statistics enlightening and amazing.
www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/151.html

Taxes under Clinton 1999 Taxes under Bush 2008
Single making 30K - tax $8,400 Single making 30K - tax $4,500
Single making 50K - tax $14,000 Single making 50K - tax $12,500
Single making 75K - tax $23,250 Single making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 60K - tax $ 16,800 Married making 60K- tax $9,000
Married making 75K - tax $21,000 Married making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 125K - tax $38,750 Married making 125K - tax $31,250

Both democratic candidates will return to the higher tax rates

It is amazing how many people that fall into the categories above think Bush is screwing them and Bill Clinton was the greatest President ever. If Obama or Hillary are elected, they both say they will repeal the Bush tax cuts and a good portion of the people that fall into the categories above can't wait for it to happen. This is like the movie The Sting with Paul Newman; you scam somebody out of some money and they don't even know what happened.

PART 3:

You think the war in Iraq is costing us too much?
Read this:
Boy am I confused. I have been hammered with the propaganda that it

E-bay and Emma

Tim and I just bought a van off e-bay last night. We have been watching several and this one really seems to be a good fit. We plan on keeping it at least 5 years and hopefully more so we should be in good shape.

The van we have right now is actually one we bought of e-bay several years ago. I was in a wreck and totalled our van. They didn't give us much to replace it with and we didn't have any saved for buying a car so we were stuck. We got one off e-bay and it has worked just fine. When we got it though it was close to 100k miles and we tend to put close to 20k a year on so it is starting to get up there. It is really strange though to buy a van and have to only take the seller's word for the condition! We are trusting that they have been honest and that God was with us during this decision. We actually bid $500 more than we wanted but they wouldn't take our first bid. We only pay cash for things so we didn't want to go too high. Thankfully we have that extra money saved. (Dave Ramsey is such a smart guy!)

Anyway, I started this post because Emma saw the e-bay watch list that had all the vans we have been watching over the past week. She was scrolling down and noticed that there was a boat listed that "you can sleep in". Guess what!?! I checked my e-mail and there is a bid confirmation!!!!!!!!!! Thankfully she only bid $100.01 but oh what a mess this could have been! I don't think think she knew what she was doing but I guess I will be having a little talk with her about e-bay.

Here is the boat she was bidding on: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=200211816289&ssPageName=STRK:MEBI:IT&ih=010
